| ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AWARDEE The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) recently named Architect and Planner Froilan L. Hong as OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL in Environmental Planning for 2008. The award was conferred last June 20 at the Grand Ballroom of the Manila Hotel where the Commission also presented similar awards to 43 other professionals in other fields. This is the second time the PRC conferred Froilan Hong with an award; the first time was in 1991 when he was named OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL in Architecture. Practicing architecture and environmental planning at the same time has given Froilan Hong the unique opportunity to integrate man-made structures into the natural environment. His designs are geared towards lessening the negative impact of big structural developments on the environment without sacrificing efficiency, cost-effectiveness and aesthetics. As one deeply concerned with the environment, he has accumulated knowledge through untiring research on proper and appropriate interventions in the use of land, water, materials and energy that would ensure sustainable development. Architect and Planner Hong was a professor at the University of the Philippines and at a time was Director of the University's Graduate Program in Architecture. He is also deeply involved with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and this has given his works an added dimension: his every work is done in the service of God and man and in harmony with God's creations. |
